Sure self care is definitely a buzz word of the moment, and perhaps rightly so. But what does self care mean for you? Many people picture candle lit bubble baths and spa days (both of which I adore btw) but actually self care can take many different forms.
Think back to lockdown, what steps did you need to take to take care of yourself then? I know for me, it was to ration my news intake. Boy those daily briefings were edge of the seat viewing, but also not ideal for us anxiety prone folk! After a while, Nick and I realised that actually we felt much better going for our daily walk during the briefing and then digesting the key points when we got back. For us, that was perfect self care in that moment.
Have a think about what self care might look like for you? It might be unfollowing that person that makes you feel bad about yourself on social media, it might be taking some time each morning jotting down any worries that you have to get them out of your head. It may be spending time each day practicing gratitude, to help you see the beauty around you in the world when things feel a bit difficult. It can be as big as a 2 week holiday in the sun and as little as saying something kind to yourself when you wake up in the morning.
To me, self care includes anything that makes you feel better, whether it be physically, emotionally or spiritually. Have a think about what 3 things you could do right now to feel better.
Remember, you will always give your best when you feel your best so prioritise feeling good and the rest will fall into place, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.
I’d love to hear your favourite self care practices, do feel free to pop a comment on or send me a message.
Lots of love,
